The Grindrod Family Centenary Trust is a signatory to the South African Philanthropy Commitment on Climate Change, led by Independent Philanthropy Association South Africa. As part of the global Philanthropy for Climate movement, this commitment reflects the Trust’s support for climate resilience, adaption, and collective action within vulnerable communities.
Our History
Established in 2010
The Grindrod Family Centenary Trust (GFCT) was established in 2010 by the broader family to commemorate the 1910 founding, in Durban, of business interests by Captain John Grindrod.
Since its inception, the GFCT has focused on supporting early childhood development (ECD) and education initiatives in KwaZulu-Natal.
In recent years, the Trust has adopted a climate-focused strategy that recognises the growing impact of climate change on young children and vulnerable communities. The GFCT now supports work at the intersection of climate resilience, environmental awareness, and early childhood development, with a particular focus on fostering a love of nature in young children across KwaZulu-Natal.
